A SIMMERING SUMMER MELTS INTO THE HORIZON

BY JAY WELLER

ONCE, THE EARTH WAS STRONG AND GREEN, OCEANS PROUD AND BLUE

TALL PINES CLIMBED WITH MAD DELIGHT, MOUNTAINS CARVED WITH GRANITE PEWS

GLAD WAVES SLAPPED THE RAPTURE SHORES, A WORLD THAT SHE ONCE KNEW

BACK WHEN IT WAS CLEAN, CLEAR, BRIGHT AND TRUE

MAN, HE MAKES HIS PLANS; AND GOD, HE ONLY KNOWS HOW MUCH IS REAL

GOODBYE, MARIENNE; THEY CANNOT TAKE MORE THAN THEY CAN STEAL

GOODBYE MARIENNE; GO SPLASH YOUR SPENDID SUNLIGHT ACROSS THE FIELDS

GOODBYE MARIENNE; GOD, HE ONLY KNOWS HOW MUCH YOU FEEL

ON A LONG AND BENDING HIGHWAY, BY THE ARIZONA LINE

RUNNIN’ OUT OF DAYLIGHT, RUNNIN’ OUT OF TIME

WINDSHIELD WIPERS SIDE TO SIDE, DIMENSIONS LOSE THEIR CUE

TIME IS GOING SIDEWAYS, SPACE IS PASSING OUT OF VIEW

A DIFFERENT STATE, A DIFFERENT FATE, CROSS ANOTHER PLAIN

A SINGLE STAR, THE HEAVENS DOOR, ANGELS UPWARD STRAIN

WINDSHIELD WIPERS SIDE TO SIDE, DIMENSIONS LOSE THEIR CUE

TIME IS GOING SIDEWAYS, SPACE IS PASSING OUT OF VIEW

PEOPLE ASK, WHERE HAVE I GONE AND WITH WHOM I MAKE MY PLAN

THERE IS BUT ONE ANSWER; I’M GONE WITH MARIENNE

PEOPLE ASK, WHERE HAVE I GONE AND WITH WHOM I MAKE MY PLAN

THERE IS BUT ONE ANSWER; I’M GONE WITH MARIENNE

GONE WITH MARIENNE

GONE WITH MARIENNE
